Last Train Home: Fade to Black Playtest

When: Tuesday, April 30th, 7:30 PM
Where: Is/Was Brewing — 5121 N Ravenswood Ave, Chicago, IL 60640

This special one-shot will feature a new, unreleased adventure module—the same exclusive scenario that will only be played in Chicago and Chicago Events—but you’ll experience it first.

In Fade to Black, you are a Witness—an ordinary person pulled into the twisted reality of The Fade. The monsters here aren’t just lurking in the shadows—they’re drawn from your fears, your regrets, and the parts of yourself you try to bury.

The Premise

You don’t remember the moment the train went wrong.

It was late. You were tired. You boarded like always.

The Red Line hums north beneath the city, carrying its usual mix — workers, drunks, students, strangers. Fluorescents buzz overhead. The tunnel outside blurs past in black silence.

Then a missed stop.

Then another.

Your phone drops service. There’s no signal now. No stations in sight. Just pitch black beyond the glass. The CTA voice returns.

“Next stop… Terminal.”

But there isn’t a Terminal station on this line. And you just watched someone in the next car go missing.

The playtest will push the game’s newest mechanics, including:

  • The Newly Revamped Witness Special Abilities—try your new abilities while surviving in the train.

  • Newly Updated Stress System—testing how far you can push your character before fear takes control has become harder as stress accrues even faster.

  • Adaptive Combat—fast, brutal encounters where survival isn’t guaranteed—and running might be your only option. Now simpler and easier to use, so Players and Directors can focus more on the fight, than fighting the system. More of this is discussed in the new update coming out tomorrow!

Why attend?

  • Be the first to play a brand-new Fade to Black one-shot adventure.

  • Provide direct feedback that will help shape the game’s next round of playtesting.

  • Have an amazing and thrilling adventure.

  • If you like horror. Simple as that.

Spots are limited— and only 5 players can play. So, reserve your place, and be ready to face the Fade.
